Daria D’Ambrosio: “Fashion design is one of the most rewarding and glamorous career options in today’s world.”

Perfect: When were you first introduced to fashion?
Daria D’Ambrosio: I was first introduced to fashion when I was twenty. I graduated in Fashion Design at Polimoda, Florence in 2015. My collection was one of the 20 best collections from the Polimoda Fashion Design Course led by Patrick De Muynick. I’ve always liked to work in the arts since I was a kid.

Perfect: How has your Italian heritage shaped your creative identity and vision?
Daria D’Ambrosio: My Italian heritage has really shaped my creative identity and vision. Italians bring along a cultural background of history, art, traditions, music. Fashion design has always been a form of expression that has allowed me to express my feelings, my personality, my culture, traditions and background.

Perfect: What can your work tell us about you as an individual?
Daria D’Ambrosio: My work talks about me through shape and time. I’d like to express my thoughts with its different frequency and vibrations. The reality is influenced by energetic and positive vibes. I’m sure we can become what we think we are through fluid shapes in an endless space that make us immortal. Time is the main force of the universe dissolving and producing everything. The higher complexity of my work reflects my personality; the necessity to keep memories alive like my childhood - clothes may represent memories and feeling that, like plants, branch in my memory. There is, for everyone, some space for free interpretation.

Perfect: Which is your biggest source of inspiration?
Daria D’Ambrosio: My biggest source of interpretation is death and life, nature, space, positive vibes and energetic thoughts. “Drapery” is one of the techniques I use most as it helps me to create shapes and volumes that I probably would never be able to think of with a pencil.

Perfect: What do you enjoy most about being a fashion designer?
Daria D’Ambrosio: Being a fashion designer gives me the chance to express my feelings, my dreams, my fears whenever and wherever I need, sending everyone a positive message. I can express my creativity with a personal signature in style.

Perfect: What advice would you give to someone looking to start their career in fashion?
Daria D’Ambrosio: I’d like to send a positive message. Fashion design is one of the most rewarding and glamorous career options in today’s world. It is necessary to have an inclination for creativity, style and originality. Along the way you can find achievements, failures, frustrations and goals but you need to be resilient and keep that sense of wonder and enthusiasm!
