Edward Crutchley’s authentically queer love letter for AW22.

How fine really is the line between darkness and love? This is what Edward Crutchley was exploring on Friday, showcasing a queer love letter of expression, with a bit of 80s glam rock.

As hole punched knit dresses met pierced rock platform footwear, at an intersection of expression of pain and pleasure. Beautiful mohair wool cardigan dresses brought on a sense of recuperation and introspection, whilst sharp shoulder leather jackets mixed with barely-there knit undergarments broke out the extroverted shape-shifter in full play.

The materials were also a highlight behind Crutchley’s latest creation as we oversaw warping fluid recycled bustiers, alongside the ultimate tiara created by Stephen Jones, broken into many pieces and laid onto the head. Within the darkness of the collection, there was a sense of telling a truthful idea of the queer love story, broken and prohibited through history, but honest and beautifully passionate. The ideas behind the curation of the theme came through a 14-text reading list about the blend between queerness and the gothic movement.

Coming together physically, the designer also offered the exploration of his looks through the metaverse as he created NFTs right next to his 18 look show, bringing a very honest portrayal of the queer love story throughout history, with an open ending, looking out into the future.
