Dior seeks the origins of life through Haute Couture for AW22.
The origins of life, and more specifically the Tree of Life motif was the converging point of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Christian Dior for this couture season. On the first day of Paris Haute Couture week, detailed embellishment and embroidery illustrated garments as pieces of origin, painting out a picture of comparison between history and the present moment.
In collaboration with Ukrainian artist Olesia Trofymenko, the French maison delved deep into the meaning of roots, new beginnings and the connection between all forms of creation. The meticulous detail of lace and embroidery, carefully dyed into shades of beige onto white puffed sleeve dresses opened a sense of historical relevance in the details - the pattern and embroidery protruding outwards, twisting and turning resembling a growing essence within nature, the pure beginning of the circle of life.
Following, motifs of gold trimmings and beading transformed the New Look into a redefined interpretation of The Tree of Life within Ukrainian folklore, an interpretation of new beginnings, new pathways and newly found strength. Detailing of smocking onto new renditions of the Bar Jacket ushered in a romantic feeling of confidence - a tale of self-empowerment coming from within. Maria Grazia has always hinted at the importance of ritual within Haute Couture, and this collection further reinstates how deeply personal such garments are, with each beading and embellishment detailing personal truths out into the world.
