Kim Jones takes us on a walk by the river Seine for AW22.

Kim Jones recreated the scenic river Seine, one of Monsieur Dior’s favourite spots in Paris, for his menswear show on Friday. Paying homage to Christian Dior’s love for architecture, the British designer delved into the archives of the maison, analysing the very first designs, shapes and colours that created Dior’s joie de vivre from the very beginning. The collection’s mood had a very reflective and reminiscent feeling, as models strolled down the runway in a slow, contemplating manner in immaculately tailored and curved dark grey coats with embellished collars, bringing a sense of dark romance together.

The formal trousers were reconstructed off to the left in a wide leg, relaxed manner that gathered all at the top in a sculpted way. The looks created a contrasting sense as they gave off a strong, formal feel in a airy and relaxed manner with tailored sweatpants (showing the underwear waistband as the main trend of the season) layered with intricately embellished gloves and bomber jackets.

The footwear was also equal parts casual and exquisite, as Dior collaborated with Birkenstock to create clogs in the signature dark grey with Dior hardware (and flower embroidery for full transformation). Also collaborating with milliner Stephen Jones, who celebrated 25 years at Dior, the headwear and berets further fulfilled the classically deep French sense of emotion and affection towards your surroundings.

The goal of Kim Jones to redefine the Bar silhouette was successfully achieved with lots of detailed and intricate pattern-cutting made to feel elegantly simple and reflective over the past whilst also innovating shapes for the future with its slight deconstructed details.

Jones’ vision on creating permanent fashion that moves along with the progression of popular culture is a talent that very few possess and the British designer’s openly creative approach towards merging the legacy of the past and the fluid beauty of the future is a skill that allows us to always exist in a state of timeless beauty.
