DSquared2’s lust for great outdoor exploration for AW22.
Dean and Dan Caten are playing around the bohemian spirit in a more-is-more way this season. After showcasing the art of exploration within the great outdoors for their menswear show in Milan in January, the same passion translated onto womenswear this February.
With signature splatter denim getting a much baggier and bigger reinvention, the opening look followed up with shearling slipper-style boots and a layered jade embellished multi-print skirt on top, finished off with mohair knitwear. Utilising layering and oversized silhouettes to give an additional tactile sense of cosiness and cocooning, the collection expanded upon outerwear coats and jackets, draping out of the body in a comfortably cosy manner, expressing the needs of the outdoor dreamchaser. Intricately soft knit patterns, shaped into dresses, combined with dark brown leather skirts layered on top further told us a story about the free spirited mind of the explorer – expressing a sense of style that is open and curious, subjective to mood and landscape.
Accessories protrude the earthy sense of the collection with beaded earrings, metal rings and bracelets featuring silver balls and bells, alongside oversized amber stone necklaces wrapped around the neck, bringing weight to each look.
The Canadian duo expressed drawing upon personal experiences and stories of connecting with nature, the comradery and ground spirit you acquire exploring the great outdoors. By bringing it onto the runway, The Catens simply put an excitement and lust for life, largely craved after a lust for exploration throughout the past two years. Part punk, part boho, part retro chic? The DSquared2 woman is all of the above – and more.
