Jil Sander’s proportioned play for AW22.
Lucie and Luke Meier of Jil Sander are all about structure this season. Showcasing their AW22 collection in Milan, the duo brought on a sophisticated, refined sense of proportions, exploring different understandings of the body. As tailoring has taken on new heights and dimensions across the board this season, the Jil Sander design duo are exploring couture-like hourglass shaping within ready-to-wear, whilst also keeping it playful and fresh.
Such can be seen through the creamy white opening look that showcased an oversized tailored hourglass wool suit jacket matched with a wool short skirt in a brilliant mix of high-low shaping that exaggerates outward. Staged across the collection in fresh pastels alongside signature Jil Sander black and grey, the collection revolved onto the exaggeration of the top part of the body through collars extending through the shoulders, or placed onto a button up, over vibrant chartreuse tailoring. In a sense of tactility, the selection of confident fabrics across wool, silk, leather and heavy cashmere was the perfect finish to a sculptural collection that creates its own movement – powerfully independent, incredibly versatile.
Jil Sander has one of the most loyal, cult followings across fashion, and such loyalty is well understood by the attention and meticulous aesthetic that teaches and guides elegant dressing through a soft, relaxed and tactile approach in fashion, cherished by men and women all across fashion and this season was no different, as Lucie and Luke Meier took us on a nostalgic trip across the 60s, and the sensational adornment of women’s love for the hourglass silhouette.
