JORDANLUCA explores the narrative of self-destruction, and healing for SS23.

“A brown house moth, Hofmannophila Pseudospretella, flutters its wings and travels closer to a lighted candle in ever-decreasing circles, inching towards certain death,  What does self-sabotage represent in each of our lives?” These were the questions being asked at JORDANLUCA’s SS23 in Milan on Saturday.

Where do you go when you go quiet? Thinking about Sigmund Freud’s “Death Drive”, Jordan Bowen and Luca Marchetto dived into the act of dark pleasure, and the lustrous taste behind the psychology of seeking self-destruction. The collection opened with a spotlight around the feeling of entanglement through restrictive tops, wrapping around the arms and textured cream polo shirts, whirling around thorns and chains pushing and pulling away from the inner monologue of pain and pleasure inside. Oversized bomber jackets and materfully blown out blazers protruded outwards through zips, which symbolised scars and wounds, whether psychological or physical, inflicted by trauma, but also symbolising the pathway towards healing.

In the act of recognising your own vices, restriction in leather jackets and coats opened up to make space for your own light coming in, ushering a new understanding of yourself, taking a step towards seeing a new reflection upon your own experience. Thorns, poking out from belt loops on relaxed trousers close the circle by bringing awareness to each of our own actions, instead of scars, carrying them as reminders of strength, ushered in by JORDANLUCA’s bravery to speak upon the power of inner dialogue and honesty - and the power to heal through forgiveness of one’s self.
