Massimo Giorgetti takes us to the mysterious MSGM island for SS23.

Massimo Giorgetti is whisking us to an island, escaping the pressure of the current world. In a juxtaposition, the designer caught himself thinking about this alternative universe whilst reading Michel Houellebecq’s The Possibility of an Island novel, which touches upon the dark, dystopian side of seclusion.

Stepping onto the concrete courtyard of Milan’s newest neighbourhood, models walked across the reflective water basin, out into the open to the mischievous soundtrack of HBO’s brilliantly produced tv series White Lotus, which can also be seen as a parallel to the MSGM man - calm, collected and full of bliss and joy, with a dark and mysterious puzzling side, urging you to dig deeper.

The collection saw a restructured introduction of holiday silhouettes dropped onto workwear fabrics and patterns such as the light blue dropped shoulder shirt, finished with black lacing across the pockets and shoulder seams. Striped boxer shorts were finished with a heavy leather belt, whilst cropped shirts sat underneath wide-brim hats for an island-meets-the-rodeo feeling of exploration. The love for uniform dressing was taken into its own relaxed spin, with dropped, boxy silhouettes which were eased, yet defined, finished with a touch of secret. Furthermore, the collection saw traditionally preppy colourful stripes subverted into hoodies and double ties, combined with dropped trousers, skewing you away from tradition and giving you a carte blanche to observe and ponder upon the story behind MSGM island’s residents - who are they and how did they end up here?
