Moschino is bringing the energy of the Buffalo styling movement for SS23.
Jeremy Scott is bringing the 1980s Buffalo movement into today’s sphere by bringing Tony Viramontes’ iconic imagery in the spotlight. Staging his first all-menswear collection for Moschino, the designer ushered in a confirmation of his deep individuality in the fashion sphere, and how influences have their own place in his imagination that complement the Scott universe.
Never shy of colour, the collection explored the strong colour palette of mustard yellows, deep reds and dark blues, whilst placing Viramontes’ iconic drawings front and centre onto bomber jackets, nylon trousers and elongated and sharp tailoring. Inadvertently punk, the looks also mirrored the energy of the Buffalo movement, and everything occurring in the 1980s that made the LGBTQI+ community speak out, loud and clear about the fight for visibility.
Additionally, each look explored its own theatrical essence, much similar to Viramontes’ expressive strokes onto paper that captured not only the feeling of fashion, but the inner expression and layered soul behind it, as Jeremy Scott’s unique way of telling stories through joy comes to graciously unpeel layers of identity.
