Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada are reshaping the wardrobe building blocks for SS23.
In Fondazione Prada, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons were building the perfectly balanced house of paper for this season. Staged in the Fondazione Prada HQ in Milan, fashion’s most dynamic duo took a reflective step, redefining the modern wardrobe staples into a postmodern world where choice and the concept of self is the lingua franca of the contemporary man.
As the audience entered the paper world of Prada, from the show invite paper shirts (later seen imagined in actual fabrics), all the way through building a set entirely from paper that transported the star-studded crowd of Jeff Goldblum, Rami Malek, Damson Idris and Gabrielle Union-Wade into a foundation of building blocks, which Mrs. Prada and Raf Simons were deconstructing bit by bit.
With an opening of sharply cut black suits with slender lapels and the perfect elongated sharp-toe boot, the collection assembled a new essential encyclopaedia of selection for menswear, beginning from tailoring before transitioning double-zipped leather shorts paired on any occasion with a stand-out fine wool knitted striped turtleneck in a pop of turquoise and mint. As each staple piece was finetuned with masterful precision into 2022, slightly oversized chequered coats encompassed a new confirmation about the new frontier of style- fresh building blocks lead to endlessly new possibilities.
Like powerful educators, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons instruct the new A,B,Cs of menswear. Now, it is up to you to take them and build your own house.
