TOD’S travels back to old-school Italian beauty for AW22.
Extrapolating the best fractures of Italian beauty, Walter Chiapponi orchestrates a new shift in tactile and fluid dressing through versatility of movement in clothing. Showing on Friday in Milan, TOD’S wanted to interpret old-school Italian beauty and fashion history in 2022, by studying its versatility. As someone who has always been about conveying a serious message, Chiapponi scaled down his collection due to the current news concerning the war in Ukraine.
By bringing a sense of inner confidence and peace, the designer aimed to give a sense of hope and positive message about our sense of self and the veracious human spirit of identity. As classic TOD’S pieces such as the bomber jackets and trench coats were refreshed through a strong blend of materials such as quilted nubuck, padded leather, and shearling-effect jersey with rubber weave detailing, the feeling of being in control of every situation echoed through the confident walk of the models down the runway.
The best quality of Walter Chiapponi has to be the meticulous research into materials and TOD’S attention towards bringing garments that stand the test of time, translating into multiple situations.The attention to detail within garments further displays that Italian fashion is not subversive towards innovation and does not rely on old fame to move towards the future.
