Missoni explores glamour outside of the comfort zone for AW22.

Nowadays, what is private, what is public, and where do we stand amongst all of that? This was the conveyed message behind Missoni’s show on Friday, questioning dress codes through loungewear such as bathrobes, brought onto evening wear in a sequined iteration that puts it all out on the table for discussion.

“It’s a story of internal strength that makes you step out of your comfort zone. The internal versus the external. The intimate versus the collective.” This was the common message ushered by Alberto Caliri’s last season for the Italian fashion house, with a focus on diametrical opposites. Dark brown knit bikinis met signature zig-zag patterned wool coats, with an extra pop of green on the inside. Sequined striped bathrobes reimagined for night-time dressing brought further a rebellious attitude, telling everyone that style codes are there to be broken.

Caliri’s message was to take the old-school approach to a brand like MIssoni and take it on with young energy, especially playing with the all-loved sense of nostalgia currently – especially through the 90s super wide trousers, spanning across denim and loungewear. The mandatory chevron coat was present in a contemporary, oversized way by elongating the hems an extra inch, placing them on top of sleek leather biker jackets. Knitwear came in distressed finishes, by creating an atmosphere rejecting perfection much like Alberto Caliri’s personal approach to fashion which created its own universe of beautiful imperfection and spirit.
