66North x GANNI’s fourth collaboration explores the importance of Nordic heritage.

Iceland’s favourite 66North and Denmark’s GANNI have come together once again for the fourth instalment of their ultimate collaboration. Beginning their creative partnership back in 2019, both brands and their synergy began expanding the viewpoints on Nordic fashion by merging a sense of technically advanced garments into a bright aesthetic, bringing something practically special onto the fashion scene.

This time around, fashion crowds got a taste of the 14 piece collection first back in February during GANNI’s AW23 show where practical silhouettes painted forth into bright yellows and contrasting greens, wrapped into oversized down coats, utilitarian elongated skirts and monochrome cropped vests, getting you ready for whatever this wet winter season might throw at you - in style.

The starting point behind the fourth 66North x GANNI collaboration was taken back to its humble beginnings in 2019, when GANNI’s creative director Ditte Refstrup began reminiscing on their very first partnership together, and the illustrious energy that captured collaborating on a different level. "I actually can’t believe it’s our fourth collaboration. We share the same sense of pride in where we come from and for this collection I wanted to go back to our roots and revisit some of those iconic pieces that really make us who we are. This season I have been reflecting on our journey and I love how those introspective elements come across in the collection while still being fun and new.”

Indeed, the styles that have come into play for this collaboration carry an Icelandic sense of culture and history from 66North’s illustrious historic importance across helping fishermen stay warm, and providing technical activewear for their needs. Incorporating the iconic Kria jacket into this collection, the style first got introduced in Iceland in the 1990s as a performance garment with its technically advanced shelling and waterproof abilities. Incorporating recycled Gore-Tex materials and fleece-based garments which utilise the innovative Seaqual, consisting of 95% recycled polyester taken from plastic litter in the ocean, this collection reaches a new convergence point of fabric innovation, clearly displaying the new endless possibilities of sustainable technical wear.

By bringing their strongest icons together in a new pairing, both 66North and GANNI express a very organic partnership that has helped them share with the world their own sense of identities, whilst also signifying the impressive growth they have both gathered in showcasing a new sense of Nordic style. Reminiscing about how this collaboration has transcended the brand, 66North’s CEO Bjarney Harðardóttir emphasises the importance of creating a safe creative space for experimentation. “Our first collaboration with GANNI was launched in 2019 and with FW23 we are launching our fourth. The journey with GANNI ́s team has been fun, creative and opens up something new each time. Creating a fun and creative space, full of learning is one of the key goals with collabs, in my opinion. And it’s inspiring to see both brands bring their unique DNA to the table. I am thrilled about the outcome and I hope you like it as much as I do!”
