AMI Paris reflects on the past, present and future for AW22.

Showing on Wednesday morning in Paris, Alexandre Mattiussi sought to take us on a journey of the past, present and future. Staging the show in a white and green tiled show space, reminiscent of a Parisian Metro station, the French designer wanted to take us out of our current hustle and reality, making us reflect for just a moment.

Showing his own recreation of the modern wardrobe staples, such as dark masculine coats and grey pressed wide trousers, the runway felt like Mattiussi was re-thinking the fashion wardrobe from the core outwards. The opening looks had a sombre, quietly elegant feel to them that had a timeless stamp in the face of the little black dress and the dark grey suit, analysing the well known classicism and its present interpretation from Ami’s eyes (and a chic, slightly mischievous influence by streetwear). As the looks progressed, this analysis looked into the future and transformed into a newly found confidence and power, with energetic neon range blazers, fluo green lace trimmed silk tops and fuschia pink tailoring with contrasting lapels that solidified Ami’s inquisitive and sociological approach to fashion.

Filled with a studded cast in the likes of Mariacarla Boscono, Paloma Elsesser, Alton Mason and Laetitia Casta, the collection shined with its elegant and powerfully graceful nature that truly showcases Alexandre Mattiussi’s understated cool and loaded approach towards letting the clothes take on their individual stories.
